A NEW GRAND PRIX

IS COMING TO ROME

The Rome Grand Prix, scheduled for June 9-11, 2023, is an event organized at the Parco del Foro Italico by FITA, the Italian Taekwondo Federation, part of the World Taekwondo Grand Prix circuit. The Rome leg, assigned to FITA for the 2023 edition, is one of four that the world federation organizes annually around the world.

In these competitions, the top 32 ranked athletes in each Olympic category compete against each other to earn decisive ranking points for the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

The Roma Grand Prix is a unique event because it takes place in the historic "Nicola Pietrangeli" Stadium to bring to life a competition that smells of history but looks to the future. Rome also hosted the 2018, 2019 and 2022 editions, creating a true taekwondo village as the setting for a spectacular competition that was described by the media as a celebration of sport.

A large turnout of spectators from all over Italy was the setting for these first two editions, colouring the stands, animating the village and above all, cheering on our Azzurri.

The event is open to the public without restriction and totally free of charge for anyone who wants to enjoy a spectacle of live sport while witnessing competition at the highest level. Concurrently with the Roma Grand Prix will take place the Kim & Liù, the world's largest tournament for young taekwondo athletes (6-11 years old). Some 2000 children from all over Europe will compete alongside their idols with the dream of winning their first medal.

The combination of Olympic athletes and children is something that is rarely seen in sport but which represents an excellence strongly desired by the President of FITA, Angelo Cito, to highlight how sport and top-level sport are fundamental to each other.

In past editions, the village, created around the competition fields, was the interactive core of the three days, where food & beverage companies were present, several e-Sports stations manned by pro-players, as well as various charity initiatives to raise awareness among the spectators present on various humanitarian issues, the main theme of the THF Italia project, the Italian Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation.

Once again this year, to promote the Roma Grand Prix, an Italian tour has been planned that will see the Demonstration Team, the world's top World Taekwondo acrobatic team, engaged in evocative Italian cities, concluding the tour in the capital on June 8. The opening ceremony will take place at the picturesque site of Piazza di Spagna, which will be filled with art, culture and entertainment.

All the beauty of taekwondo will shine through with the Demo Team that will thrill the fans by bringing a spectacle and an unequivocal message of peace from the Humanitarian Taekwondo Foundation (THF). The Rome Grand Prix aims to confirm expectations by creating an exciting event capable of enhancing the sporting discipline at the centre of a unique sporting context.
